The Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (AVG) transports around 46 million passengers a year with its light rail vehicles. The company has a light rail network of more than 540 kilometers and operates 288 kilometers of its own line, making it one of the largest railroad companies in Baden-Württemberg. A central element is the “Karlsruhe Model”, an innovative TramTrain system that links inner-city streetcars and regional railroad lines, thus enabling flexible mobility throughout the region.
Founded in 1957, AVG is a municipal transport company and employs around 1,000 people. In addition to operating and maintaining the railroads and lines, AVG is also responsible for planning, infrastructure and customer service. Through close cooperation with Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) and Karlsruher Verkehrsverbund (KVV), AVG makes a significant contribution to mobility in the Upper Rhine region.
